The gay face of European Community

September 3, 2008 by Andy

gay-face-of-ec-sitges-300x225 The gay face of European CommunityWhat about a quick trip around the gay places in the European area? obviously, manifestations that previously mainly gathered campaigners and active cause- members are more and more special occasions to have fun.We can notice that each notorious place attracts specific categories of people.

Who could believe that in the sixties tourists in Barcelone were not allowed to wear shorts in public places? then it is just like a huge night-club.Just to notice some of them especially gay:Arena, Gay T-dance, Space Ibiza, La Madame, Souvenirs, Salvation…dance floors are everywhere, of all kinds you need and explode with fun till the end of the nights. And let us notice also Sitges with beach parties in july, bars, 80s nights….

The city of Hamburg the free and prosperous city, offers a good relax feeling by the water and nature has its heart, the “lifestyles” and “cultures” on and off, the famous “musicals” played in its walls and the charm of the international harbour.
The gay district in Hamburg is St. Georg, located downtown between the Hauptbahnhof (main station) and the Alster River. In the streets Lange Reihe, Steindamm, Pulverteich, Danziger Strasse and Rostocker Straße are a multitude of bars and cafes, but also gay travel agencies, doctors, hairdressers fashion… And all this in a joyful atmosphere and multicultural . Regarding nightlife, the famous “red light district” of the city is also always a must. The Reeperbahn is now a cultural venue of the most varied and genuine worship.

Amsterdam was one of the first cities to break taboos about homosexuals and has become the gay capital of Europe. Rich with a long tradition of tolerance, is a city where two gays can walk in the streets hand in hand. This is doubtless one reason why Amsterdam annually attracts an audience of so many gay people:the memorial to deported homsexuals , gay marriage, Gay Pride, the Gay Games, a very active nightlife, dozens of places and hundreds of events and special activities, are some of the main attractive reasons. The more “leather” will love the Warmoesstraat, located in the red light district. Most prefer the very soft connected Regulierdswartsstraat between cosy bars and “design”restaurants.

Manchester has a large Gay and Lesbian community, in an area which has come to be known as the Gay Village . It has brought a new dynamism and vitality to a running down area of the city, and its pavement cafés and bars have helped attract many people to its nightlife - Gay, Lesbian and Heteros!
The Gay Village for sure represents the biggest center of gay interests, services and businesses in Europe.

Berlin…what else? gay life is everywhere: a gay mayor,a gay museum, gay laws…the gay media supermarket owned by Bruno Gmunder, the CSW Pride Parade the ,Berlin’s LGBT information and meeting center,a memorial to the homosexuals murdered by the Nazis…well, we will however say too much or too few…

Obviously that European Community is growing, perhaps with some problems, but let us bet that it will be more reliable than the political one.
