Therefore with this in mind "marriage" is probably not the correct name to use after all (never really looked at from that perspective before now), However I do agree that couples should have the same rights as anyone else when living together as a "married" couple (for want of a better word now).. In the UK the state recognizes any male and female living under the same roof after a period of 3 weeks (I think) as being classed as being "a couple" regardless of the fact if you are or not! ... Now this works well for the state in relation to if they are claiming benefits because they receive them at a reduced rate after that 3 week period (thats the catch, its not a recognition thing at all).. In addition to that if either partner (or not) has a disagreement say, and one decides to move out technically that person can claim half of everything as if they had been married!.... Though I do not know if anyone has successfully managed to do this yet, I know of cases when a percentage has been awarded in relation to the other party's contrition's towards living expenses and other things they can provide receipts for. So there is a half arsed system in place here..... but it still does not include same sex couples living together... At least not to my knowledge anyway.. please correct me if I am wrong somebody.
