Quebec: a little more gay friendly

The declaration of Quebec in 2008 against homophobia has been unanimously adopted by the municipal council of Quebec City.

It’s mayor Regis Labeaume, recognizes the equality of citizens of his city as well as gay tourists. The city therefore declare respect for cultural diversity.

This process began in the wake of the Declaration of equality that signed the Mayor of Montreal after the arrival of Outgames Montreal in 2007.

CALIFORNIA: NO GAY MARRIAGE!

The Democratic wave that brought Barack Obama to the White House, did not prevent the Americans to show local referendums in their commitment to traditional values, several states in rejecting gay marriage.

Besides the presidential election, voters must also decide whether to 153 referendums and popular initiatives in 35 states.

Florida, Arizona, Arkansas and especially California have adopted proposals banning gay marriage.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The laughter, tears of happiness, millions of people in jubilation in the streets throughout the country: Barack Obama, Tuesday became the first Black elected president of the United States, capsized America.

It is 22:00 in Chicago (Illinois, North), stronghold of Barack Obama. A strong clamor rises above the Grant Park, a vast public park surrounded by buildings on Lake Michigan. The results come fall: Barack Obama is elected president, and some 240,000 people gathered to celebrate the event, leaving their joy burst.

Some kissing, dancing, others applaud any break. The tears of joy flow on dozens and dozens of faces.

“Your heart beats, beats,” said Shirley Vaughn, struggling to find words to express his joy to see a Black reach the highest elective office in his country. “This is truly a historic moment, to be here with all these people,” she adds.

Italy: A member of the left threatened with exclusion of her party for homophobic arguments.

The Italian Democratic Party, the main opposition force, Tuesday will consider the case of a member, a member of Opus Dei, which would have delivered homophobic ideas and whose activists are demanding exclusion, a first in peninsula political life according to the media.
